Annual Trail Rides : 144/200 (Bareback 8/12)

Two weeks of heavy riding, speed records, dashing through rain and puddles and introducing 9 other riders on 4 separate occasions to my amazing 3 km track! Ive also managed to dramatically reduce my time online and finish 4 novels.

Im also in the running for the big bingo prize!

Its been a great vacation so far, and today my Q gave me that oh so sweet teenage girl feeling with her lovely pony as we meandered through the soupy forest bareback and on the buckle on one of those icky sticky days.

3 more weeks of bliss ahead.

I should have lunged first. But the arena was busy and I decided to take my chances on the trail. Some recent snow made the footing better so we trotted out for a nice solo ride. I was feeling pretty chill on the first afternoon of my holiday break and enjoying the warm weather that had the snow on the treetops melting into raindrops. It was nice. I head down the ravine and take a picture of the lovely scene before we head up the hill. In that blind turn ahead a walker appears. A nice older gentleman I have seen before. We share smiles and pleasantries and cross paths. Ten feet later as I start heading up the steep hill on the left at the apex of the blind turn, a loose dog pops out. Big skies and deerflies

Annual Trail Rides: 129/200 (Bareback 6/12) It is the first day of my 6 week vacation and I celebrated by having a massive 3 hour trail ride with my best buddy B in the gorgeous sector 3 of my network. While I love sector 3 for the big skies (and deer flies), we need to cross a busy road with very fast traffic (90-100 km/h) and a blind curve. I really do not like to cross busy roads alone just in case I get separated from my horse and he decides to hightail it back to the barn on his own. Horses have been killed, and have killed, in our area for this very reason. Anyways, it was happy times, with a hint of thunderstorm in the forecast. But these days, weather forecasts are about as unpredictable as government confinement rules, so I decided to not trust the weather app and just proceed. I started with my usual backup routine, which includes the now very unusual pre-mounting leg stretch. Annual Trail Rides: 84/200 Im not getting younger, and carpe diem is sometimes my only source of bravery. I used to ride exclusively bareback when I was 12/13 on my pretty paint mare Mystique with her one blue one brown eyes. But as the years grew, so did trepidation while my athletic ability and “bounciness” withdrew. I dipped my toe in the bareback pond every once in a while, but it wasn’t a regular part of my program.  I popped on Q bareback, to my own astonishment, for the first time 3 years ago during a Games Day. He had 6 months under saddle at that point but he exuded such calm confidence that I figured the risk was minimal.  Friends were there, it was a closed sand ring, it was a hot day and we were all tired from events all day long (Q included). Lots of riding this week, so we had a spa day

Had a great and fast ride with C the lovely intern. It left both of us (yes, even the spry 20 year old) exhausted and sore. Neither of us wanted to ride today. Here are a few clips from our trek. Q was happy to get some chill time. He really could care less about having a clean tail and mane. But I care! As a special treat I let him eat a beech tree. He enjoyed it more than the grass at his feet?!? Tomorrow I climb back in the saddle. Heatwave warning for the weekend so it will be easy riding in the shaded trails.

Csipos Paprika. The secret ingredient.

Hungarian food (and most central and eastern european food) is delicious, but eventually it weighs on you. Potato pancakes, cheese dumplings, sour cream in everything and some strange fascination of cottage cheese in everything sweet. All the potato and dairy is something we have learned to avoid. But when in Hungary ... This time, we were going to do things a little different. Albeit with a microscopic kitchen undertooled and with no functioning oven. We would make sure we always had fruit and veggies on hand, and we would mostly cook our own breakfasts and dinners. Clean eating and low carb meals have become our new mantra, which makes cooking surprisingly easy. Tiny kitchen with very little counterspace for food prep.
