A tale of two trails
As the summer camp theme and brilliant weather continues, I went on two very different trails today with different people. I also downloaded the app Horse Globe on my phone and so far the results are brilliant. Im anxious to see what I can get my top speed to, but for now Im trying to stay safe and in the saddle.
My butt contusion is sprouting rainbow colours from my tailbone towards my hip. Im still trying to figure out the sequence of motions that had me fall butt first on the inside of the turn. I remember having knocked my nose, but cant remember if it was on his neck as he slammed the brakes and spun, or if it was on his shoulder as I fell down.
Today was the second time I rode post fall, and it was a good day. The first ride was with M and her chunky paint. It was a more sedate ride but Im convinced we still rode longer and faster than she originally intended, only because she knew I was tracking it on my app. We even cantered for ... 10 strides?
The second ride was with BO and boarder S and we did a much tougher trail. Lots of winding trails through tight and narrow forest paths, at a blistering trot and even a canter. I never do these trails in the summer, and certainly never at this speed. The turns and trees come fast and a hit to the knees can be punishing. After 40 minutes of that nonsense, I let them go ahead without me and broke to a walk. Q was briefly worried about losing his buddies, but I gave him a scratch on the neck and dropped the reins and he was back to being cool as a cucumber.
Over all it was almost two hours in the woods without repeating a trail, averaging 3.5 mph and covering 6 miles.

That's a great app! And those two trails sound like fun.
ReplyDeleteIts fun to test the limitations. After today, I dont really trust the app to properly decipher between the gaits, but Im still testing the speed accuracy.
