Hello dapples!

The snow is still here but freezing rain is on its way. I took the liberty of some bad cell phone pics to record Qs dapples which seem to really shine this winter. And the bottom of his tail is getting whiter.

It was a good trail today with some nice trotting and cantering. Good thing, because this nice footing will not be with us for long. Maybe Ill get one more try tomorrow.

Until then, I will enjoy the dappled view.

Ouch says the ground

Zoom, zoom ... ouch. Finally one of the coolest days is here. Sunny, blue skies, low humidity and temps in mid-twenties. Perfect riding weather. Particularly after our surprise storm on Wednesday that left tons of debris and fallen trees and branches on the trails. Surprise storm brewing a few days ago. Within a few minutes, there were huge circular gusts of wind, almost like a Tornado. The next day volunteer crews were out removing the fallen trees. But some trails still have significant debris. I was heading out with trail buddy C and her azteca mare to explore section 5. I told her I needed some media for my summer challenge. She was happy to oblige not quite knowing what other objectives I had in mind. A decade in review

I have thoroughly enjoyed everyone's decade retrospective, sparked by May as Well Event Picture Challenge . I have loved reading the history of blogs I have been following, and have added a few more to the mix. But it sure was a challenge to find some good pictures from those early years.  2010 seems so long ago, given how much my life has changed in these few years. It was a ho-hum year, with lots of work stress, and riding with my mom and our two palominos (my first mare on the left, and her son on the right). We logged lots of trail miles and I convinced my mom to do some local showing with me, including a pairs class. Note the Elvis outfits for our pairs pleasure class. Hilarious! 2011 is most notably marked by my meeting my husband-to-be and us spontaneously being engaged within 3 months and married within 6 months on the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. Expansion of normal

Our five-week European escapade is now coming to a close and I look forward to the return to normal that is my bed, my kitchen, my routine. As I reflect on all that we experienced on this trip, it is clear that even I, a self-proclaimed expert in change management, struggle with disruption in my life. Each new destination would have me grumpy and fussy for the first 24 hours as I shifted to a new living situation almost every five days. This guard and horse stood immobile at the Royal Horse Guards in London for at least an hour. It stretches my imagination of patience. The grand 4 ton Gold Carriage at the Royal Mews. Requires a brakeman walking alongside and 27 meters to stop. Apparently this might be the most uncomfortable thing to travel in, and was very seldom used. Gorgeous Cottage and English Garden in the middle of Hyde Park. This park really had me question my definition of high-density urban territory. Hyde Park with all of its variations on a garden theme

Quaint Krakow

We arrived in Krakow on a super short commuter flight from Budapest and spent most of the weekend wandering about the charming town, constantly watching out for rogue trams that want to run us over. Our first afternoon was a delightful stop in the large market square to sit on a terrace, drink local beer, eat a lovely plate of cured sausages and meats with a kickass fresh horseradish purée, and watch the parade go by on National Constitution Day. Somehow, we often arrive in a new city on their national holiday. Krakow town square and basilica In the town square, m any fine carriages and horses are in line, with beautiful women in black hats with white ribbons driving the carriages. Its so unusual to see only women driving so many large carriages, that I took notice. At first, I thought it was because of the parade. A treasure hunt on horseback

It was a cold start on a bright autumn day. I was heading out to do the club’s first ever mystery word rally in the woods. From the start to finish, it was estimated to take 2-3 hours. Me with my adopted winning team. I was a little nervous before we began, as there was supposed to be 60+ rider and buggy teams on the trails with different start times and racing for a finish. But, I nicely asked the organizers to curb the cantering/galloping so it became a walk/trot ride. Much safer for all. Sometimes at these events we have horses that haven't been ridden much in the last few months and so they get quite excited with all that is happening. Loose horse panic galloping in the woods was something I was hoping not to encounter. Turns out, I had nothing to worry about. In fact the organizers made the treasure hunt so difficult that you would penalize yourself if you did anything else but walk. I was in the first depart time, and I was nauseous.
